Laurel Mountain, Forbes State Forrest

LOCATION: Laurel Summit Road, off Route 30

TRAIL DESCRIPTION: The trails at Laurel Mountain feature rocky intermediate and advanced level trails. Riders should have at least better than average technical riding skills in order to enjoy the seemingly endless rocky gardens. Since most of the trails stay on the ridge top, there is not much elevation gain or loss. The trails loop together nicely and flow well in both directions. This makes it easy to put together a great short, intermediate or long ride. Many of the trails intersect close to Summit Road which allows for a quick bailout route if necessary. All trails are clearly marked. Due to the nature of the soil and the ridge top location these trails should be avoided after it has recently rained. The view at Wolf’s Rock is worth taking in and is a good place for a snack break. This a also a great place to cross country ski in the winter since the Laurel Ridge gets more snow than anywhere else in the region.
